The Snowtown Wind Farm is located along the Hummock and Barunga Ranges, west of Snowtown in the Mid-North of South Australia.  Provisional development planning consent was granted by the Wakefield Regional Council in January 2004 for up to 130 wind turbines, together with an underground electrical cable network, access tracks, crane hardstandings and wind monitoring masts. Council subsequently granted consent for the electrical transmission infrastructure in August 2004.

The Snowtown Wind Farm (Stage 1) was purchased by Trust Power who have commissioned and constructed 47 Suzlon wind turbines.  The site was officially opened on Sunday 2nd November 2008 by the Hon Mike Rann, Premier of South Australia.  The local community has benefited from this project in a number of ways including employment, economy, landowners, and the erection of a 44 metre turbine blade in the town centre that will act as a positive tourist attraction.
