Solar Dawn is a 250 megawatt solar thermal gas hybrid power plant to be built near Chinchilla in South West Queensland by a consortium including AREVA Solar, CS Energy and Solar Prospect.
Wind Prospect was chosen to develop the project based on our extensive track record in development, having consented over 1GW of projects in Australia, of which 565MW is operating or under construction, which makes us the largest independent wind farm developer in the Southern hemisphere.
Solar Dawn is part of the Australian Government’s Solar Flagships Program, which aims to provide the foundation for large-scale, grid-connected solar power and to accelerate the commercialisation of solar power. It is a key component of the Australian Government’s $5.1 billion Clean Energy Initiative. Once completed, Solar Dawn will be the largest solar thermal gas hybrid plant in the world.
Solar Prospect is involved in a multitude of tasks for the Solar Dawn project. We found the site; lodged a site development application; and are currently determining the routes for gas and water pipelines to the site. We will obtain development approvals for the pipelines, grid connection and manufacturing facilities.
A full and succinct solar resource assessment is being undertaken over as long a period as possible to ensure the highest quality of data. In addition, our team is driving the grid connection and community consultation as well as providing input into the contractual and financing aspects of the project.
We are currently completing the detailed design, obtaining regulatory approvals and undertaking community consultation. After this we will complete construction, operations and maintenance contracts; and secure debt and equity finance
