First 2 South African Projects Over the Line

Hopefield wind farm, became fully operational on the 1st Feburary 2014, making it the first project from Round One over the finish line. Hot on its heels was Van Stadens, achieving commercial operation just days later.

Hopefield wind farm, located 105Km north of Cape Town consists of 37 turbines with a capacity of 66MW. Wind Prospect originally acted as Technical Advisor to the lender, Rand Merchant Bank, and is now moving into the operational phase of the contract.

Second to the post, Van Stadens is a 9 turbine, 17MW site located to the east of Port Elizabeth. Wind Prospect acted as Independent Engineer to the project, ensuring its progress to commissioning.

Sian Meath, Senior Project Manager in the Cape Town office said;

“Achieving commercial operations on two of the Round One Wind Energy projects in South Africa is a major milestone in the REIPPP process. We are looking forward to contributing to the remaining six wind farms in Round One, due to become operational later this year.”
