HEXHAM WIND FARM

The Willatook Wind Farm is being developed by Wind Prospect in Western Victoria. The project is currently in a pre-planning application stage

About the Wind Farm

Wind Prospect is currently undertaking environmental studies to support the development of a wind farm site between Caramut and Mortlake in south-west Victoria. The area is predominantly cleared land used for cattle and sheep farming although some of the properties are also used for dairy farming and cropping.

The proposed Hexham Wind Farm would comprise up to 119 wind turbines with a total of up to 220 metres from ground to blade tip. Other associated infrastructure will include access tracks (both new and upgraded from existing farm tracks where necessary), underground cabling, overhead lines and other electrical infrastructure such as a substation and export powerline.

It is expected that the wind farm will operate for at least 20 years.

Community & Benefits

Wind Prospect developments include the establishment of a Community Fund.  The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for the local community to develop, maintain, and enhance facilities, amenities, projects and activities in the region. The Community Fund can be administered by local community representatives and is usually established around the time that the wind farm begins producing electricity.

Wind farm developments invariably bring other economic benefits to a regional community. These include opportunities for local contractors and suppliers of goods and services and the opportunity for local employment during construction and operation. Wind farm contractors will seek to engage labour and services from the local or regional area where the necessary skills and services are available.
