Carbon Neutral Project
August 2005
Wind Prospect has embarked on a new project - becoming a
carbon neutral company. By reducing our net greenhouse
gas emissions to zero, we will be furthering our commitment
to slowing climate change.
Although we play an important role in reducing greenhouse
gas emissions through our wind farm development work, we also
want to "walk our talk", and take responsibility
for the greenhouse gases we generate, be it from electricity,
heating or travel.
The first step in this journey was an audit of our current
carbon-emitting activities in Australia, carried out in July
2005. From there, we have identified several ways to improve
our emissions record:
- by reducing our office energy use and switching to 100%
Green Power for our electricity;
- by using biodiesel in our diesel vehicles, and by installing
our own on-site biodiesel supply tank until biodiesel is
more widely available in Adelaide's south; and
- by encouraging car pooling, riding bikes and catching
public transport.
To account for any residual emissions, we plan to plant trees
to naturally absorb the carbon.
